Chocolate and wine

It's a hard-to-beat combo, particularly with Valentine's Day around the corner: wine and chocolate.

The pair will take center stage at the Rotary Club of Aurora Sunrise's sixth annual wine and chocolate tasting and silent auction.

The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Fox Valley Winery, 5600 Route 34, Oswego.

Organizers are hoping for around 150 guests. The cost is $20 per person, which includes wine and appetizers.

Participants will sample five wines made from locally grown grapes, event organizer Joe Kosner said.

"It's wine and chocolate, always a good combination," he said. "It's a great way to experience Illinois wine."

The Rotary also uses the event to promote awareness about its causes, which include helping underprivileged youth.

Leaders hope to raise at least $10,000, and all proceeds will be donated to local educational, community and charitable projects for youth.

A silent auction will feature prizes including theater tickets, a Bears-autographed football and other sports memorabilia.

The event falls between the NFL conference championships and the Super Bowl, and organizers are hoping that date might pull in more men. They also are adding a cash bar to the event.

"We're trying to get the husbands out to buy gifts for Valentine's Day," Kosner said. "Some of them would say, 'I don't like wine,' and we can say, 'Then come and have a beer.'"

Tickets can be purchased at American Family Insurance, 106 S Lincolnway, in North Aurora.
