One hurt in Gurnee-area crash
A Waukegan woman was traveling at a high rate of speed this morning when she crashed in a gasoline station's parking lot just west of Gurnee, authorities said.
Lake County sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Christopher Thompson said the driver, Alexis Gardella, was extricated from her vehicle and taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of minor injuries.
Thompson said Gardella, 24, was driving west on Route 132 just past Route 45 when she lost control and hit a curb at the BP Amoco station.
Witnesses told sheriff's deputies Gardella was driving at a high rate of speed when her 2003 four-door Saturn struck the curb and landed on its side at the station on the intersection's northwest corner. Authorities were called to the scene at 6:38 a.m.
Thompson said Gurnee Fire Department personnel extricated Gardella from her vehicle before she was taken to the hospital.
Gardella was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions, police said.
