Did Libertyville High grad win the million?

Vivek Bavda is:

a) A second-year law student;

b) A 1999 graduate of Libertyville High School;

c) Scheduled to appear on a national game show this week;

d) All of the above.

If "d" is your final answer, you are correct.

Bavda will be featured as a contestant on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" at 11 a.m. Tuesday on WGN.

The 30-year-old Mundelein man spent the summer watching the show and decided to audition when it came to Chicago in September.

"I went on a Friday, passed the multiple-choice test, had a one-minute interview with the producer, and got a call Monday asking me to come to New York," he said. "It was really unbelievable."

Bavda wore a Rahki on his wrist, hoping to receive Hindu blessings from the bracelets while in the hot seat.

His friends and family will have to wait until Tuesday, however, to see if it worked.

A confidentiality clause kept Bavda from saying how much money he won and which, if any, of his "lifelines" he used during the game.

Bavda said he had several friends on stand-by, including an opera singer, a former electrician and sports junkie and a cancer researcher, if he needed their assistance.

He said playing from the hot seat is a lot more difficult than playing from the couch.

"When I was in the hot seat I was pretty calm and cool," he said. "I put it out of my head that this was real money we were playing for, which helped."

Before the show, Bavda told producers if he won on "Millionaire," he would give money to his parents and Teach For America, and pay for law school.

Bavda's mother, Bharti Bavda, accompanied her son to New York City and sat in the "Millionaire" audience as his on-air companion for the show.

"I was more nervous than my son," she said. "I am not used to watching the 'Millionaire' show."

Bavda has a doctors appointment Tuesday and will miss the show, but plans on recording it and watching later with his family.

"I'll keep it for posterity," he said. "And I've got a buddy who wants to put it on YouTube."
