Elgin

• A 2006 silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo was reported stolen Friday from the parking lot behind Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, police said. The car was stolen sometime between 1 and 5 p.m. The driver, a 35-year-old bus driver for Elgin Area School District U-46, said the vehicle was locked, and her purse was inside.

• A 46-year-old Elgin man was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital Friday after a hit-and-run accident on North Melrose Avenue, police said. James Werrback of 801 Kramer Ave., was waiting to cross Melrose when a vehicle headed north on Melrose hit Werrback and drove off. The incident took place at 9:46 p.m. on the 300 block of Melrose, north of Lawrence Avenue. No information was available about Werrback's condition.
