Immanuel holds kindergarten open house

Children who are ready for kindergarten in this year are invited to check out Immanuel Lutheran School's kindergarten class with their parents on Monday and Tuesday.

"We are open on these days so that children and parents can see the classroom in action," said Marilyn Koehlert, kindergarten teacher.

According to Koehlert, school staff begin each school year in the summer by visiting the prospective students' home and while there get to know the family, and meet the mom, dad, siblings and even pets.

"In effect, we become an extension of the family," Koehlert said.

Immanuel exudes a sense of order, from the student's uniforms to their behavior.

For many years, Koehlert has been the introduction to the Immanuel way of life. Alongside her academic program, she teaches respect, patience, self-esteem and how to express appropriate love to others.

She takes pride in knowing that when her class graduates and heads on to first grade over 95 percent of them will be reading. She also knows that those who graduate from Immanuel are welcomed into many honors classes in the public high schools.

Immanuel offers music, computer, library, science, sports and Bible studies to its students.

Parents who are interested in Immanuel are welcome to attend the open house Monday and Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors also may take a tour of the campus. Kindergarten registration for the 2008-09 school year will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. Jan. 19 in the kindergarten room.

Immanuel Lutheran School is now accepting applications for the 2008-09 school year. The school accepts applications from students of any faith, race, national and ethnic origin. It is a recognized school by the state of Illinois and North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. While going beyond academic excellence, Immanuel continues to offer students distinction in the area of fine arts.

Located on Route 72 and Van Buren Street in East Dundee, Immanuel is an easily accessible school for the area. For information, call Principal Ken Becker at (847) 428-1010.
