ACC still perfect in SCC
After a slow start from both the Aurora Central Catholic and Immaculate Conception boys basketball teams, the Chargers took off in the second quarter Saturday night in Elmhurst.
Mark Adams scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter, which propelled the Chargers to a 57-41 win in Suburban Catholic Conference action Saturday.
"When he got going, we got going," ACC coach Nate Drye said of Adams, the team's leading scorer who also led the way on the boards with 7.
ACC led just 9-6 after the first quarter, then put up 16 in the second for a 25-12 lead at the break.
From there, ACC limited IC's opportunities.
"We played solid defense all night and never game them anything," Drye said.
Joey Guth and Anthony Kelley each finished with 9 points for the Chargers.
With the win, ACC improved to 17-1 overall and 8-0 in the SCC with 6 more conference games left, including Friday's battle in Aurora against St. Francis, which only has one loss in conference play.
"We put ourselves in a good position (to win conference)," Drye said. "We just need to finish it. We have to be ready to go (Friday)."
