Garden Club
• The Garden Club of Inverness hosts Bill Shores to discuss incorporating edible landscaping and native plant-scapes into suburban gardens at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The meeting is at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine. No admission fee. (847) 381-2727.
Chicago Botanic Garden
A class on making beeswax candles is Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Each class costs $20 per child. Registration required in advance. Call (847) 835-8363.
The Wisconsin-Illinois Lily Society presents a monthly series of interactive slide lectures beginning Jan. 20 and ending April 13.
Special family activities for Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish Festival of Trees, are from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 in Burnstein Hall. Presented in partnership with the National Council of Jewish Women and the Chicago North Shore Section.
The garden is at 1000 Lake-Cook Road, just east of the Edens Expressway in Glencoe. Hours are 7 a.m. to dusk. Admission is free. Special-event fees apply. Parking is $15 and $7 on Tuesdays for seniors 62 and older.

Morton Arboretum
Tu B'Shvat Celebrations for the Jewish New Year of the Trees includes papermaking, storytelling and traditional Yiddish songs from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 20.
A Tu B'Shvat Buffet Dinner is 6 p.m. Jan. 20. Tickets are $40-$47; $18-$24 for kids.
The arboretum is open from 7 a.m. to dusk daily. The entrance is on Route 53 just west of I-355 and north of the Reagan Tollway.
Admission is $9 for ages 18-64 and $8 for those 65 and older. Children 3-17 pay $6, and those 2 and younger are admitted free. On Wednesdays, admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for children 3-17. For information, call (630) 968-0074 or visit www.mortonarb.org.
