Family stays with a known home commodity

There is no higher compliment than a repeat customer. And that is particularly true with something as complex as the construction of a home.

So when Mike and Jamie Twitty didn't even bother searching for a builder or a community when they decided they wanted a larger home for their growing family, that was high praise indeed.

The Twittys purchased their first home in 1999 in the Biltmore neighborhood within Mill Creek, Shodeen Homes' golf course community in Geneva.

Since both the builder and the community exceeded their expectations, they decided to repeat the experience and moved up to Shodeen's Inverness neighborhood, also within Mill Creek, and selected a bigger home for their three young children.

"We knew from firsthand experience that there was no better builder or location for us," Jamie Twitty said.

"I've heard horror stories about constructing a new home from friends and relatives, and I'm happy to say I just can't relate," Mike Twitty said. "When we chose Shodeen Homes in 1999, everything went extremely well. So it was an easy choice to have them craft our next home."

The Twittys' new model has the same name as their former neighborhood. The Biltmore model has four bedrooms, 3½ baths, a gourmet kitchen, two-story family room and walkout basement. It is almost 1,300 square feet larger than the couple's previous home.

"Working with Shodeen Homes the second time around was even sweeter," Jamie Twitty said.

Shodeen's designers worked extensively with the Twittys to add custom details and make construction modifications.

For example, the kitchen was redesigned from the original plan; the garage was upgraded from a three- to a four-car configuration; walls were bumped out; and several bay windows were added.

"Shodeen Homes allowed so much creative leeway and design input, that we feel as if this is truly a custom, one-of-a-kind home," Mike Twitty said.

The couple's three children, Jack, Cole and Jillian, are especially thrilled with the backyard.

"Our lot backs up to a beautiful area of wetlands that is maintained by the Geneva Park District. It offers an amazing view, and creates an open, natural feeling we always wanted for our kids," Jamie Twitty said.

As the children grow, there'll be no fighting for bathroom time because Jillian's bedroom has its own private bath. The boys' rooms share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

The kitchen is a favorite with Mike and Jamie and includes both butter cream and cherry cabinets, granite countertops, a double island, stainless steel appliances and carved details among its many upgrades.

The master bedroom ranks a close second with a bedroom-sized walk-in closet and arched window, as well as a spalike master bath with oversized soaking tub.

Mill Creek in unincorporated Kane County features 127 acres of preserved wetlands, 195 acres of open parks, 15 miles of nature and bike trails, and 2,000 single-family and multifamily residences in 15 different neighborhoods.

"Once you get spoiled by Mill Creek's plentiful parks, mature trees and comfortable small-town feel, you just don't want to leave," Jamie Twitty said.

To reach Mill Creek, take the Ronald Reagan Tollway west to Orchard Road; exit north to the Randall Road light; turn left on Keslinger Road and proceed two miles; turn left on Prairie Clover Drive to the sales office. There are three models on the left (located on the corner of Berquist and Prairie Clover drives).
