Credit Huckabee for up-front approach
There's been a fuss raised over Mike Huckabee's airing of a Christmas greeting. Huckabee wished all of America a "magnificent Christmas season," and pointedly referred to the birth of Jesus Christ as what Christians celebrate on Christmas.
Strangely, someone claimed that a bookshelf in the background of his video created a subliminal message espousing Christianity, as if it were a hidden danger.
He made a plain statement. There's no need for a subliminal message.
He quite clearly stated his faith as the reason for his greeting.
Some have deemed candidly declaring his Christian faith to be political suicide. I like the transparency.
If a candidate's faith isn't at the core of who they are, then their faith is meaningless.
Like Huckabee though, I have more respect for an honest atheist than a disingenuous believer. Some candidates will use religious sounding buzz words to appeal to voters.
But some will genuinely welcome being held accountable to the faith they rely on for their moral compass and direction.
Quite frankly I have not decided who I will support for president and I don't vote based solely on a candidate's stated faith.
But I will scrutinize any candidate beyond just their platform and qualifications to look for evidence of character, integrity, principles and faith that matches what I believe America needs.
Of this I am certain, with the immense responsibilities as president of the United States, that person will need to rely on God for wisdom. It seems prudent that they know who He is.
