Suspect in custody in car dragging death
Round Lake Beach police announced they have a "person of interest" in custody for the death of 29-year-old Brian Boatright.
Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said the name of that person will not be released until charged by the Lake County state's attorney's office.
Prosecutors said they are still reviewing the case Thursday but would not comment.
Boatright, 29, was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a station wagon in a parking lot on the 300 block of Rollins Road.
Chiarello said witnesses saw the car strike Boatright and drag him as it left the parking lot.
Witnesses were screaming for the driver to stop the car, but it kept going.
The body was later discovered by witnesses on the 400 block of Meadowgreen Lane.
Police arrived to find Boatright on the pavement and a woman standing over him, Chiarello said. He would not elaborate on the woman's connection to the fatality.
The case was under investigation by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
