Sun City updates
Meet the candidates:ŒThe Sun City Community Civics Committee will hold a forum Thursday for 14th Congressional District candidates in the Feb. 5 primary election. All Sun City residents are invited to attend from 7 to 9 p.m. at Drendel Ballroom in the Prairie Lodge.
Because there are so many candidates from both parties running for the vacated 14th Congressional District seat of Dennis Hastert, it was decided to exclude candidates who are unopposed in the primary. The forum will focus only on the Democratic and Republican candidates for the seats and Republican candidates for the 49th Illinois House District seat, State Rep. Tim Schmitz of Batavia, and Jim Krenz, a Carpentersville businessman.
The Civics Committee will try to hold a forum for candidates for the 16th Congressional District and the 49th and 64th Illinois General Assembly Districts before the November general election. Candidates for these seats have been informed that if they attend the Thursday forum they may place literature on the tables and will be acknowledged if they identify themselves to the committee before the forum begins.
Candidates for the 14th Congressional District will be allowed two minutes to make a statement. Then, questions from residents will be invited. The forum will be televised on Sun City's closed circuit cable system. There will be tables in the back of the room for candidate literature, and candidates are welcome to stay and chat with residents at the end of the meeting.
