Illinois organ donor registry marks 3 million members
Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White has announced a milestone for the state's organ donor registry, saying more than three million people signed up.
White says the First Person Consent Organ/Tissue Donor Registry met the mark in the just more than two years since legislation was passed creating the registry.
White had statistics as well, saying estimates show the registry saves 100 lives a year and that one donor help 25 other people.
White's office says about 4,500 people in Illinois are awaiting an organ transplant.
