Weigh-in Challenge: The Elk Grove Park District and Alexian Brothers Medical Center are partners in bringing you the Exceptionally Healthy Community program series. The times are 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 6 to 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave. This award-winning program will run throughout 2008 with activities for individuals or the entire family. It is designed to challenge its participants by offering information and continuing education to promote healthier lifestyles. Kick off the series with this biannual challenge by choosing a date and time to join. The free screenings include: a weight and height measurement, sit and reach, blood pressure, body-mass index, a cholesterol screen, a body-fat analysis and a one-on-one consultation with a personal trainer. Tax help: Seniors age 60 and older with incomes of less than $60,000 may sign up at the Elk Grove Sheila Ray Adult Center, 225 E. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village to have their 2007 federal and state income tax returns prepared. Both electronic and paper filing is available. Tax returns are prepared from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays Feb. 1 through April 11, and Wednesdays Feb. 6 through April 9. AARP trained and certified volunteers prepare the returns in this IRS-AARP Tax-Aide service. Federal forms 1040 EZ, 1040A, and 1040 with schedules for interest, dividends, itemized deductions, and capitol gains can be prepared. Also forms C-EZ and ES for persons with self employment income and expenses under $2,500. The Tax-Aide service cannot prepare complicated returns including Schedule C profit or loss from business, Schedule E rents and losses, Form 8606 nondeductible IRA's, out of state gambling winnings and out of state sale of property.
