Krog stretches points streak to 13
Jason Krog's behind-the-back, no-look goal midway through the third period had nothing more than individual significance when it happened.
It meant he had extended his points streak to 13 games, and it was a pretty goal that fellow goal scorers like to admire. But for the team, it was just 1 goal of many as they led by 4 at the time.
When the Iowa Stars scored twice in the final two minutes and were pushing for another, Krog's goal looked a lot different to the Wolves as they held on for a 6-4 win at the Allstate Arena.
In the end, Krog's goal put a nice cap on the day for the veteran center. Earlier, he was selected to play on the Canadian team for the AHL All-Star Game. Then came the goal and the extension of his points streak.
The last time Krog was held without a point was Dec. 7 against the Providence Bruins. During the past 13 games, he's had 8 goals and 21 assists. He leads the AHL with 55 points.
"I've felt better in the last month," Krog said. "During the first part of the season, I wasn't playing at the top of my game. I now have more control and have been seeing the ice better."
In his two seasons with the Wolves, Krog hasn't had many off days. He's recorded a point in 84 of the 95 games he's been with the team. Four times, he's had a points streak of 10 or more games.
"He's just smarter than everyone else at this level," Wolves coach John Anderson said. "(Darren) Haydar, too. They're skilled and just know the game. They see things that others don't see."
Haydar had a goal and an assist against the Stars. Jesse Schultz, Bryan Little, Jordan LaVallee and Guillaume Desbiens also scored.
Just as Iowa was good to Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee, it's also been a welcomed opponent for the Wolves. They scored 6 or more goals against the Stars for the third time this season. In four games, they've outscored Iowa 25-14.
The Wolves set a franchise record for fewest penalty minutes as Joey Crabb's two-minute hooking call was the only one whistled against them.
• Wolves defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski was also selected to the Canadian team for the All-Star Game. The PlanetUSA team will announced today. Brett Sterling is expected to be named.
