'Person of interest' in custody in death of Round Lake Beach man
Round Lake Beach police announced today they have a "person of interest" in custody for the death of 29-year-old Brian Boatright.
Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said the name of that person will not be released until charged by the Lake County State's Attorney's office.
Prosecutors said they are reviewing charges in the case, but would not release any further information.
Boatright, 29, of 491 Meadowgreen Lane, was killed around 6 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a white Volvo station wagon in a parking lot on the 300 block of Rollins Road.
Chiarello said witnesses saw Boatright struck by the car and dragged underneath it as the vehicle continued to drive in the parking lot.
Although witnesses were screaming for the driver to stop the car, police said the vehicle left the parking lot and traveled north on Cedar Lake Road.
Police swarmed to the area in search of the vehicle, Chiarello said, when dispatchers received more calls about a body in the roadway on the 400 block of Meadowgreen Lane.
Police arrived to find Boatright on the pavement and a woman standing over him, Chiarello said. He would not elaborate on the woman's connection to the fatality.
Lake County coroner's officers said Boatright died at the scene from massive internal injuries.
The case is under investigation by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
Boatright was due in court today to face a petition to revoke his probation from a 2005 conviction for aggravated battery.
Court records indicate Boatright's conviction stemmed from a fight with a Lake Bluff man near Boatright's residence.
He was placed on probation, sentenced to 58 days in jail and ordered to pay $2,310 in restitution and perform 200 hours of public service.
