Death of man dragged by car still under review
Round Lake Beach police said Wednesday they have identified the driver of the car that struck and killed Brian Boatright, dragging him a half mile.
Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said he would not identify the driver until the investigation into Boatright's death Tuesday evening is concluded.
Boatright, 29, of 491 Meadowgreen Lane, was killed around 6 p.m. when he was struck by a white Volvo station wagon in a parking lot on the 300 block of Rollins Road.
Chiarello said witnesses said Boatright was struck by the car and dragged underneath it as the vehicle continued to drive in the parking lot.
Although witnesses were screaming for the driver to stop the car, police said the vehicle left the parking lot and traveled north on Cedar Lake Road.
Police swarmed to the area in search of the vehicle, Chiarello said, when dispatchers received more calls about a body in the roadway on the 400 block of Meadowgreen Lane.
Police arrived to find Boatright on the pavement and a woman standing over him, Chiarello said. He would not elaborate on the woman's connection to the fatality.
Lake County coroner's officers said Boatright died at the scene from massive internal injuries.
The case is being investigated by Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
Lake County state's attorney's office officials were being consulted throughout the day, but declined to comment.
Boatright was due in court today to face a petition to revoke his probation from a 2005 conviction for aggravated battery.
Court records indicate Boatright's conviction stemmed from a fight with a Lake Bluff man near Boatright's residence.
He was placed on probation, sentenced to 58 days in jail and ordered to pay $2,310 in restitution and perform 200 hours of public service.
