Michigan State holds off Purdue
Reserve Kalin Lucas scored 16 points, and Travis Walton had his only 4 points in the final 22 seconds to help No. 6 Michigan State survive a scare from visiting Purdue and earn a 78-75 victory Tuesday night.
The Spartans (14-1, 2-0 Big Ten) built a 16-point lead in the first half, then fell behind by 5 with 5:52 left. A 5-0 run over the final 1:47 gave Michigan State its 11th straight win.
Durrell Summers had 15 points, Raymar Morgan added 14 and Goran Suton has 12 for the Spartans, who shot 61 percent from the field.
Chris Kramer had 19 points, and Nemanja Calasan added 18 for the Boilermakers (10-5, 1-1), who played without No. 3 scorer and top rebounder Robbie Hummel, who was sidelined with flu symptoms.
Keaton Grant and E'Twaun Moore both had 12 points for Purdue, which shot 57.1 percent in the second half after hitting just 28.6 percent in the first half.
Kramer had 15 points in the second half and Calasan added 12 for the Boilermakers, who trailed 39-30 at halftime.
Indiana 78, Michigan 64: D.J. White scored 21 points and had a career-high 22 rebounds, and No. 10 Indiana (13-1, 2-0 Big Ten) won its ninth straight by beating host Michigan (4-11, 0-3), which got 19 points from freshman Manny Harris.
Kansas 90, Loyola, Md. 60: Sherron Collins scored 18 points, and host No. 3 Kansas (15-0) finished the first half on a 15-2 run after an outburst by coach Bill Self to beat Loyola of Maryland (6-9), which got 13 points from Gerald Brown.
ISU 51, Northern Iowa 46: Sophomore guard Osiris Eldridge scored a game-high 13 points, including 2 free throws in the final seconds, to lead Illinois State (12-3, 3-0 MVC) past Northern Iowa (10-5, 2-2 MVC), which got 13 points from Adam Koch.
SIU 77, Bradley 64: Matt Shaw had 18 points to lead host Southern Illinois (7-8, 2-2 Missouri Valley) past Bradley (7-9, 0-4), which got 18 points from Andrew Warren.
Women
Rutgers 65, Marquette 61: Essence Carson and Epiphanny Prince each scored 17 points to lead No. 5 Rutgers (12-2, 2-0 Big East) past host Marquette (9-6, 1-1), which got 15 points from Krystal Ellis.
Notre Dame 82, Louisville 74: Charel Allen scored a season-high 26 points to lead No. 14 Notre Dame (13-2, 1-0 Big East) to a win over host Louisville (11-4, 0-2), which got 22 points from Candyce Bingham.
