Thanks for the help for youth center
As we enter 2008, I wish to take the time to thank everyone who assisted during 2007 to help make The Grayslake Youth Center a reality.
When we entered 2007, we had a dream, numerous donations, a lot of promises of help, but no building. The village of Grayslake worked closely with the Grayslake Park District in what ultimately resulted in a home for the Grayslake Youth Center NFP, Inc, now known as THE OASIS.
Thanks to dozens of volunteer contractors, resident volunteers and local business donations, the building at 151 Hawley St. that once housed the Grayslake Police Department and then the Grayslake Park District will soon be home to local music on the weekends, and teens interacting with their peers after school and evenings.
As a non-profit organization, we would never have been able to reach our goal of providing this center without the help of everyone involved. I would especially like to thank state Rep. Sandy Cole for obtaining the $75,000 community initiative grant for us from the state of Illinois. As a result of this grant, projects that would have taken years to complete will now be finished prior to the opening of our doors to the community.
Watch for our grand opening in the spring, For more information, call Joyce Campbell at (847) 989-2233.
