Soccer for toddlers
South Elgin Parks & Recreation will hold an indoor soccer program for preschoolers who are interested in learning how to play the game. The program begins Jan. 15 and is limited to 3- and 4-year olds. It will cover the basics of passing, scoring and dribbling. It will be held from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. every Tuesday between Feb. 19 and March 11 at the Community United Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring Street. Cost is $32 for residents and $37 for non-residents. Controversy in the arts
Today is the last day to make reservations for the Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago lecture at 5 p.m. Jan. 13 at the Herrington Inn, 15 S. River Road, in Geneva. James Yood, of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, will discuss why the visual arts have been so controversial in recent years. The program will begin with a cash bar at 4:30 p.m. The lecture begins at 5 p.m. and the dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The fee for the program and dinner is $60 and reservations are necessary. 'Mulan' comes to Arcada:
Rising Star Theatreworks of Geneva will present Disney's "Mulan" Jan. 25-27 at the Arcada Theater, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles. The production includes a cast of more than 50 young people. Class size impact?
The St. Charles School District will hold the next Summit 303 community meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the lower level of Charlestowne Mall, Route 64 and Kirk Road, in St. Charles. Participants will learn how class size directly impacts student achievement. Charles M. Achilles will present original research on the subject. Achilles is a part-time professor of education administration at Seton Hall University and Eastern Michigan University. Learn about coyotes
The Barrington area's Citizens For Conservation will host a special presentation on coyotes, their populations and behaviors at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 19 at the Vehe Barn, 23570 W. Cuba Road in Deer Park. Chris Anchor of the Cook County Forest Preserve District will present the program, which will provide insight into the animal's activities. Anchor also will make suggestions on how to live peacefully with coyotes. Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door.
