Lazarus House is the winner

About 70 soccer players competed last weekend, with one overriding winner -- Lazarus House.

The St. Charles shelter was to receive about 11 laundry baskets full of items, as well as some cash, from participants in the fifth annual St. Charles Holiday Alumni Soccer Classic

There were six teams, with about 12 players per team at the Dec. 30 event at Sportsplex in St. Charles.

A couple dozen were first-time participants, said organizer Guy Bellaver, a 2000 St. Charles High School graduate.

In addition to the other collections, some donated food will be delivered to the Northern Illinois Food Bank in St. Charles.
