JU basketball lands recruit

Signing his first recruit for the 2008-09 season, Judson University men's basketball associate head coach Tony Tompkins has a commitment from Trent Tucker for next season. Tucker choose Judson over four other Christian schools that were seeking him.

"Trent will be a great asset for us next year at Judson," said Tompkins. "He will bring his size and ability to us to use in a lot of different ways. I am glad he will be an Eagle next year."

Tucker, who hails from Versailles, Ind., is in his senior season at South Ripley High School. He is 6-foot-6, 220 pounds, and averaged 10.5 points and 7 rebounds per game in his junior season. As a junior, he helped South Ripley to the sectional championship game and was a member of the All-Sectional team and the Ripley County Tournament team. On the team, he was given the rebound award. In the sectional tournament last year, he averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds in three games.

In the AAU ranks, Tucker plays for the Southern Indiana Sharks. The Sharks took second at the Adidas 16U Super 64 Tournament in Las Vegas in 2006. In that same summer, they finished second at the Indiana State Tournament. In 2007, the Sharks again placed second at the Indiana State Tournament.

Tompkins will become the head men's basketball coach for Judson University after the 2007-08 season taking over for Jim Cook. Cook will stay as the women's basketball coach and will be the Dean of Men for Judson.
