Duplicate bridge

Closing out the old year of duplicate bridge Dec. 28, David Germaine and Ed Kain captured first place for north-south, while Marilyn Bailey and Ardythe Edwards placed first for east-west. Runners-up for north-south were Chere and Tom Anderson in second place, Geri and Larry Dale, third, and Jay Kadakia and Ron Schwarz, fourth. For east-west, Pat Danna and John Papaleo placed second, Shirley Bruns and Lois Stachnik, third, and Carolyn and Bob Peterson, fourth.

In duplicate bridge played Dec. 21, first place went to Geri and Larry Dale for north-south and Joan Iwinski and Betty Smith for east-west. Also among the top four for north-south were, David Germaine and Dolores VonderHaar, second; Paul Clark and Irene Crawford, third, and Caralee and Ron Hopman, fourth. For east-west, Mary Ann Harju and William Macomber were second; Marilyn Bailey and Ardythe Edwards, third; and Naomi Cartwright and Karen Richardson, fourth.

Victory in duplicate bridge on Dec. 17 went to Janet Clark and Arvind Shah. Bill Macomb and Ron Tenggren came in second.

Contract bridge

Wally Westphal scored 7,710 points to claim first place in contract bridge Dec. 26. Candy Goldfarb took second place with 7,170. Esther Auster was third with 5,450. Shirley Bruns took fourth place with 5,150.

In a game played Dec. 19, Donna Emmerton place first with 4,460; Chuck Zunker, second, 4,330; Jan Koerner, third, 4,300, and Carol Marsh, fourth, 4 Jan Koerner, third, 4,300, and Carol Marsh, fourth, 4,280. Also, Pat Danna, fifth, 4,210; Doris Kopp, sixth, 4,130, and Candy Goldfarb, seventh, 3,950.

In pairs contract bridge Dec. 18, Janice Apel and Carol Smith came in first with 4,270. Bill Macomb and Jan Zimmerman were second with 4,040. Nancy and Wally Carlson came in third with 3,700. Geri and Larry Dale were fourth at 3,670. Walt Figge and Loren Stuvick placed fifth with 3,630.

Bridge invitational

Winning the American Contract Bridge League invitational in Sun City Dec. 15 were Suzanne Dunn and Robert Heuel for north-south and Kay Burda Mike Elliott for east-west. Runners-up were Diane and Ray DuShane, second; Jay Kadakia and Ron Schwarz, third, and Caralee and Ron Hopman, fourth for north-south. For east-west, Yvonne and David Petty placed second, Donnelle Brosseau and John Diehl, third, Shirley Bruns and Betty Smith, fourth; Naomi Cartwright and Karen Richardson, fifth, and Janice Apel and Carol Smith, sixth.

Cribbage

Carol Charpentier placed first in cribbage Dec. 26 with a score of 482. Jerry Jarvis came in second with 461. Jarvis posted a high individual hand of 24 points. Wally Bartels and Don Glasgow each had a hand of 21. Jim Jemilo played two hands of 20. There were three skunks.

At a team event held for a cribbage club Christmas party Dec. 19, Sue Chiodo and Ed Dunn teamed up to take first place with 722 points. Jerry Jarvis and Tom Fleming placed second with 714.

Euchre

Playing euchre Dec. 21, Bill Wiederkehr tied with Diane Losinski at 65 points to share first place. Jim Elder came in second with 63. Ken Kretz, Don Glasgow and Sharon Elder each scored 56 to tie for third place. Nancy Morbeck came in fourth with 54.

Bowling

With the Sun City Bowling League at Brunswick Zone, Algonquin, ending the first half of its season Dec. 12, the Sonics were in first place with a 62-29 record. The Pistons place second with 61-30. Third place was a tie between the Suns and the Heat, each with 57-34. The Timberwolves finished fourth with 56-35. In women's individual scoring, Rose Marie Zakula took high game scratch, 214, and high game with handicap, 251. Dollie Crom had high series scratch, 510, while Gaye Manisco and Anna Clark tied for high series with handicap at 653. In men's scoring, Alan Schrader had high game scratch, 233, and high series scratch, 619. Jim Czelatdko had high game with handicap, 271, and Jim Moreth had high series with handicap, 703.

Pinochle

Morning pinochle Dec. 17 found Marilyn Burhite and Carol Charpentier tied with the high score of 621. Inge Heidorn turned in the low score at 439. Taking double pinochles were Ann Campopiano, Charpentier, Joan Dunmead, Tom Fleming, Don Glasgow, Phil LoMonaco, Jim Runtz, Helen Szybowski, and Marilyn Winter. Campopiano and LoMonaco took all-tricks. Marlene Tresp won the round house. In afternoon play, Fran Edwards and Ed Serafin took the high score at 603 each. Ken Issel was low scorer with 394. Rich Curylo and Doug Williams each had a double pinochle. All-tricks went to Rose Curylo, Virginia Meyer, Lou Poitras, Ed Redker and Paul Stromberg. Pinochle was not played Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve. Games will resume Jan. 7 at 8:30 a.m. and noon in the Prairie Lodge multi-purpose room.
