St. Sophia's giving benefits Hellenic Heart Program

The Philoptochos Society of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, on behalf of Children's Memorial Hospital Hellenic Heart Program, hosted a Heart Beat luncheon, concert and Festival of Tables this fall at the Elgin church.

Attended by more than 400 people, this charity event featured a performance by award-winning Christian recording artist Mark Harris.

Harris performed songs from his newly released CD, "Windows and Walls," as well as his 2007 inspirational song "Find Your Wings."

Dr. Constantine Mavroudis, chief cardiac surgeon and founder of the Hellenic Heart Program, did a PowerPoint presentation which highlighted his many success stories and innovations in cardiac surgery that are used worldwide. The Hellenic Heart Program provides surgery for children with complex congenital heart disease that is unavailable in Greece or Europe.

Guests were served a delicious gourmet lunch and enjoyed an assortment of luxurious raffle prizes, including a $1,000 shopping spree at Woodfield Mall, a $500 Macy's gift card, diamond jewelry and more.

Event co-chairwomen Angelike Ajroja and Kanella Mathioudis were very pleased with the record-breaking fundraising efforts of their philanthropic organization. They also were thrilled that so many of the guests purchased Harris' CDs. Proceeds from the event benefited the Hellenic Heart Program and other Philoptochos philanthropic endeavors

Everyone was uplifted and inspired by Harris and Mavroudis, and how they both have dedicated their very successful careers to serving God.
