Blues benefit invades Highwood

Blues fans, head to the North Shore bowling haven The Alley, 210 Green Bay Road, Highwood, for the Chicago SuperBlues Bowl. The event features a number of the city's luminaries and raises money for "Bluesified," a locally-produced, nonprofit documentary exploring the state and future of blues music and culture.

The headline performers are Delta blues legend David "Honeyboy" Edwards, previewing "Roamin' and Ramblin,'" his upcoming album for Chicago's Earwig Music, along with Lil' Ed and the Blues Imperials. A "Best of the Blues Clubs" Showcase and Jam follows, with participants including Tom Holland, Toronzo Cannon, Chico Banks, Tom Crivellone, Chainsaw Dupont and Andre Howard.

The SuperBlues Bowl also offers silent and live auctions, blues dancing and appetizers from local eateries The Grill and Bluegrass. It takes place from 7:15 p.m. to 1 a.m. Jan. 12. Tickets are $23 in advance, $33 at the door. Call (877) 725-8849 or visit www.bluesbowl.com.

• The gang behind Idiot Ego zine hosts a three-day, all-ages birthday bash for "main dude" Ian Floetl at the Clearwater Theater, 96 W. Main St., West Dundee. Spotlighting the cream of the Chicago punk, indie rock and grindcore crop, headliners include Sass Dragons, Catfish Haven and The Copyrights today, The Arrivals, HeWhoCorrupts and North Lincoln on Saturday and The Brokedowns, Dr. Manhattan and Shot Baker on Sunday.
