Pavelec, Wolves win again

It's all still a ride for Chicago Wolves goalie Ondrej Pavelec.

He's 20 years old. He's already been up to the NHL. He's living and playing in a major U.S. city.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that he can't seem to lose.

Pavelec won his seventh straight for the Wolves on Wednesday as he stopped 25 shots in a 4-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals at the Allstate Arena.

"I've won the last seven games, so I'm pretty confident," said the native Czech whose English continues to improve.

It wasn't the number of shots that Pavelec blocked against the Admirals that was impressive. It was the type of shots.

The Admirals had point blank chance after chance to beat him. Each time, Pavelec came through and swiped away the puck with his left-handed glove. He made 11 saves in the third period alone.

"He seems to be really coming into his own," said Wolves coach John Anderson, whose team improved to 24-8-1-0. "His gloves seems to be great."

Pavelec, though confident, also admitted it wasn't all skill.

"I saw the puck every time," he said. "If you don't see the puck, it makes it harder. I got lucky a couple times, too."

Offensive support has certainly played into the streak as well. The Wolves have scored 4 or more goals throughout it.

Wednesday's win was no different. Joel Kwiatkowski, Jordan LaVallee, Brett Sterling and Kevin Doell all scored for the Wolves,

After struggling in the Wolves' last game, LaVallee came through with the game-winner against the Admirals. Skating with the puck up the left side of the ice during the second period, LaVallee was checked into the boards, managed to keep possession, continued forward and beat Milwaukee's goalie.

Jason Krog, who leads the AHL with 49 points, dished out 3 assists in the win. It extended his points streak to 11 games.
