Briefs: Help fix our roads
Lake County residents with concerns about transportation can e-mail state leaders from computer terminals in the lobby of the county building in Waukegan and at the Division of Transportation in Libertyville. County officials are asking state leaders to approve a capital program to fund all forms of state transportation and want residents to be aware of the issue. Residents are being directed to www.fixourroads now.com, a Web site sponsored by the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association.

Holiday party with a catch
Cherie Smith Zurek, a Lake Zurich RE/MAX agent, and her husband Mark Zurek, owner of Delta Renovations in Barrington, made an unusual request on their holiday party invitation to friends, family members and business associates -- fork out dough for a good cause. The couple matched donations dollar for dollar, raising a total of $9,450 for Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Roughly 200 guests attended the Dec. 15 party. "We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our guests," said Smith Zurek. The 4,000 RE/MAX associates in northern Illinois have supported Children's Memorial Hospital through a variety of fund-raisers.
