Arlington library drive sets record

To the editor: Thanks to many, many generous community members, Arlington Heights Memorial Library's 10th annual Holiday Book Drive was once again a huge success. We set a new record by collecting 1,793 new children's books in Arlington Heights, which was 303 more than last year.

The books will be part of the Wheeling Township Adopt-a-Family gift baskets that are delivered to area families this holiday season.

On behalf of the library's board of trustees, staff and volunteers, we would like to thank everyone who participated in giving the precious "gift of reading" to our neighbors.

Special thanks are extended to the following community groups, schools, and businesses that collected the new books to donate to the library's drive this year: Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce Professional Women's Council; Northwest Suburban Montessori School; St. Alphonsus School kindergarten classes; St. James Grade School; Thomas Middle School; Urban Harvest; Windsor School Girl Scout Troop 396.

In addition, Arlington Heights Library staff members collected more than $1,100 in cash to purchase more than 200 new books selected by children's librarians in Kids' World. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of young readers --thank you!ÃÆ'ˆ¯ÃƒÆ’‚ˆ¿ÃƒÆ’‚ˆ½
