Time to take the Polar Bear Plunge
Forecasters are predicting flurries, high winds and a maximum temperature 21 degrees New Year's Day, which means hundreds of Polar Bear Plungers are going to learn the true meaning of uncomfortable.
Whether you are diving in or just observing, here's some information that will get you to what organizer's are calling Lake Michigan's largest Polar Bear Plunge. Just remember to bring a warm change of clothes.
What: Polar Bear Plunge
When: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday
Where: Waukegan Beach, 201 Sea Horse Drive.
Cost: $10 advance registration/$15 the day of the event.
Purpose (in other words, why in the world would someone pay to do this?): Proceeds from the ninth-annual event go to the Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County, an organization that helps disabled people get involved in year-round recreational activities.
