The briefs: Two named to zoning panel

The East Dundee village board has appointed John Brewer and Lael Miller to the village's planning and zoning commission. Miller, who has more than 15 years of senior management experience, also has worked in planning, zoning, business and economic development. Brewer works for a large curtain, wall and window company assisting with specification and detail preparation.

Kids can learn soccer

South Elgin's park district offers an indoor soccer program for kids interested in learning how to play the game. The program, which runs Jan. 15 to Feb. 5 and is reserved for 3- and 4-year-olds, covers the basics of passing, scoring and dribbling. They'll play from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring St., South Elgin. The cost $32 is for residents. Register by Jan. 8. Call (847) 622-0003.

Register to vote at library

With the Illinois primary just a month away, time is running out to register to vote. If you still haven't registered, the Huntley Area Public Library and the League of Women Voters offer a Voter Registration Day from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the library, 11000 Ruth Road. Residents of Kane and McHenry counties are welcome. To register, bring two forms of identification. One must have your name and current address; the other only needs to have your name.
