A Jan. 17 registration deadline is set for next year's weight loss and exercise adherence class at the Norris Recreation Center, 1050 Dunham Road, in St. Charles. The program starts Jan. 20 and is open to center members and visitors. Four contest winners who lose the most weight or work out the most over six weeks will win a three-month membership to the center. The program is free for existing members and $40 for visitors. District nominations sought
Nominations are being accepted for the 2-year term of the office of director of the Kane-DuPage County Soil and Water Conservation District. To be eligible, you must be of legal voting age and own or reside on land located within the boundaries of the Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District. To be considered for nomination as a candidate for the office of director, nominees must provide proof of residency or ownership of land located within the boundaries of the district. Interested persons must respond by 4:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the district's office, 2315 Dean St., St. Charles, during business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
St. Edward special auction
St. Edward Central Catholic High School will hold its 19th annual Tidal Wave Auction/Dinner Dance April 19 at the Stonegate Centre, 2401 W. Higgins Road, Hoffman Estates. The theme will be "Puttin' on the Ritz." All alumni, family and friends are invited to attend the event, which includes dinner, dancing and live and silent auctions. To donate an item, place an ad in the auction catalog, become a sponsor or attend, call the Tidal Wave Hotline at (847) 741-7535, ext. 123. Proceeds will benefit scholarships, expenses and enhancements to the school.
Youth grants available:
The St. Charles Youth Commission is accepting applications for its 2007 Challenge Grant program. Young people and their friends can submit ideas for ways to make the community safer and more enjoyable. Each year the commission decides which proposals should receive grant money. Applications are available online at www.stcharlesil.gov. They should be completed and delivered to city hall, 2 E. Main St., no later than Jan. 11. Call (630) 377-4435.
