Cops arrest Chicago hostage-taker

An adult man held a teenager hostage at an apartment building on Chicago's South Side for more than 10 hours before police took him into custody Sunday morning, authorities said.

The female whom the man held was unharmed, said police spokesman Marcel Bright. He did not have other details on how the crisis ended about 10:30 a.m. or whether weapons were involved.

Police responded to a 911 call about a domestic-related incident about midnight. They were still trying to determine the relationship between the man and teenager. Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Joe Roccasalva said police officers were inside the four-story apartment building during the incident.

The fire department also provided an ambulance and a truck to assist police. Police did not release the identities of those involved and could not immediately say what might have motivated the man to hold the teenager against her will.
