Chicago man charged in '95 murder

A 44-year-old convicted burglar has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 1995 killing of a Chicago woman.

The Cook County state's attorney's office says DNA evidence links Alex Jones of Chicago to the slaying of 45-year-old Lolita Staten. Her body was found strangled in an abandoned building in 1995.

A 2003 law requires DNA be collected from convicted felons, and Jones' information was entered into a database. Jones finished a five-month sentence for burglary Friday when authorities arrested him in connection with the slaying of Staten.
