Road project not safer, but confusing

Over the past two years, motorists driving through the Butterfield Road expansion in Libertyville navigated through the construction with the promise of a larger, safer roadway; the result is a road made of compromises that will shortly cause the loss of property and life.

One only has to observe the lunacy of drivers as they exit from Sunset Foods onto Butterfield Road blocking entire through lanes as they attempt to make a left turn while 40-foot tractor trailers make illegal U-turns to get into the industrial park.

Public officials refusing to put in a traffic signal and the public demanding some type of access has resulted in lane configurations that are unsafe and confusing. A short term compromise is not the answer; a continuous center barricade for this entire section of road or a full signal light is.
