Elevator statute hurts condo owners

This is a strong protest against recently enacted Illinois statute #92-0873.

Purportedly, this law provides for greater safety in all elevators over a certain age within the state. If that were the simple intent, presented on a reasonable basis, who would possibly oppose it?

However, it seems evident that special interests have lobbied the legislature in such a way as to enact a bill that imposes stringent standards to be enacted at extremely high cost on an extremely tight time schedule.

In effect, this is causing severe financial distress for a great number of people, including thousands of senior residents living in thousands of condominiums throughout the state. These condo residents, while many in number, have no galvanized position in opposition to powerful interests creating this law.

Nonetheless, something should be done to modify this stringent statute.
