The briefs: Redevelopment plan denied
Redevelopment plan denied
A proposal to put a bank and Walgreens on the former site of Brandt's Little Café in Palatine was not recommended by the Palatine Plan Commission, which voted 7-1 against it. It now goes to the village council in early January for a final vote. Among concerns by plan commissioners were that the drive-through for the proposed Walgreens was only one lane with no escape route and that the easements between the development and the residential area were too close. Des Plaines-based DL Acquisitions is putting forth the plans for the site at Northwest Highway and Quentin Road.
8th candidate off ballot
A Moderate Party candidate seeking to represent the 8th House District has been bounced from the Feb 5 primary ballot. The signatures on Iain Abernathy's candidate petition had been challenged, and the state elections board upheld the challenge. The seat now is held by two-term Democrat Melissa Bean. Abernathy, of Round Lake, could not be reached for comment. Bean, another Democrat and three Republicans remain in the running for the post. The 8th District includes northwest Cook, western Lake and eastern McHenry counties.
