The briefs: Chili and golf

Orchard Valley Golf Course, 2411 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora, will conduct its first "Chili Bowl" golf event at noon Jan. 27. The nine-hole event is $30 per person and includes greens fee, chili, beer and door prizes. Reservations will be taken beginning Jan. 8 at the Orchard Valley Pro Shop. Golfers can reserve a spot with a credit card, but fees will be collected the day of the event. The golf course must have frozen ground and adequate snow cover for the event. Nursing program at ECC

Those interested in enrolling in Elgin Community College's professional nursing program are encouraged to attend an upcoming information session detailing the program's requirements. ECC has scheduled a group information meeting for prospective nursing majors in January on the Main Campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The session starts at 6 p.m. Jan. 7, in the Advanced Technology Center auditorium. ECC representatives will outline the entrance requirements and admission process, describe the nursing program, and explore employment options in the nursing field. See impact of class sizes

The St. Charles School District will hold the next Summit 303 community meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 10 in the lower level of Charlestowne Mall, Route 64 and Kirk Road in St. Charles. Participants will learn how class size directly impacts student achievement. Charles M. Achilles will present original research on the subject. Achilles is a part-time professor of education administration at Seton Hall University and Eastern Michigan University.
