Orchestra opens season Feb. 24
The Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra recently announced its concerts for 2008.
The second season will include full orchestra concerts as well as chamber music, appearances by the chorus and some special soloists.
The season will open Feb. 24 with "Music for the Living Room." Chamber music was created to be enjoyed in a more intimate setting. Members of the orchestra will be featured in small ensembles and as soloists with string orchestra accompaniment. The concert is scheduled for the 3 p.m. in the Crimi Auditorium at Aurora University.
"Travel Europe in 80 Minutes" is the second concert of the new season and will feature works by European composers that depict various locations in the region. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. April 13 in the Arlene Hawks Theater at East Aurora High School.
The orchestra and chorus will take the stage at the Paramount Arts Centre on June 26 for the "Salute to America" concert. Rousing patriotic music will be featured as well as the gala reception and auction of the "Painted Violins." The gala reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the concert at 7:30 p.m.
Sixteen renowned area artists are transforming old stringed instruments into new works of art. These pieces will travel to area art galleries and then be auctioned to the highest bidders at the June 26 concert.
On Sept. 28, the orchestra will feature the music of Mozart in "Genius Interrupted." Mozart died at the age of 35 leaving a vast legacy of musical genius as never known before or since. Thomas Jostlein, assistant principal horn of the New York Philharmonic, will be the featured soloist. Also joining the orchestra will be Batavia piano virtuoso Edita Eppolito for Mozart's final piano concerto. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Crimi Auditorium at Aurora University.
The final concert of the season will be at 3 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Arlene Hawks Auditorium at East Aurora High School. "Happy Holidays to All !" will feature the orchestra and chorus launching the holiday season with many well-known musical selections.
Subscriptions for the 2008 season are available for $90 for adults and $65 for students/seniors.
The Fox Valley Philharmonic is a community orchestra sponsored by The Fox Valley Academy of Music Performance which also operates the Fox Valley Youth Symphony Orchestras and the Access to Music program for underprivileged children. Members of the orchestra represent 16 communities including Aurora, Batavia, Carol Stream, Downers Grove, Elgin, Geneva, Hoffman Estates, Lemont, Montgomery, Naperville, North Aurora, Oswego, Pingree Grove, Plano, St. Charles and Western Springs.
