Off-duty Chicago police officer charged with DUI in crash

An off-duty Chicago police officer has been charged with driving under the influence following a Christmas Eve crash.

Illinois State Police have identified the officer as 43-year-old Jon Cacciatore.

Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond says he is in "critical and guarded" condition at Stroger (STROH'-jer) Hospital.

Bond has said Cacciatore's blood-alcohol limit surpassed the legal limit when his car hit a tow truck parked on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Investigators are looking into the crash, which happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The tow truck driver was repairing a flat on another vehicle, and also was injured and taken to a local hospital. His condition was not available.
