Library Closings: The library will be closed on Monday and Tuesday for the New Year's holiday.
Ongoing Book Sale: Friends of the Library sponsor an ongoing book sale on the first floor of the library during regular library hours.
Register to Vote: United States citizens living in suburban Cook County may register to vote during regular library hours. Two forms of ID are required. One must list the current address of the applicant. The deadline for registering for the Feb. 5 primary election is Jan. 8.
Adult Winter Reading Club 2008: "Happy Days Are Here Again," the 2008 Adult Winter Reading Club gives teens and adults the opportunity to read books and vote for their favorite fiction genre. Read more books, cast more votes. Each vote makes the reader eligible for prizes. The program runs Wednesday through Feb. 24. (R-RS or Mobile Library)
Winter Reading Club: Children preschool through eighth grade are invited to "Read to Succeed." Participating readers will be eligible to win weekly prizes. Those completing the program may also win the grand prize. The Winter Reading Club is cosponsored with the Chicago Wolves hockey team. Registration begins on Wednesday and the reading club runs until Feb. 24. (R-YS or the Mobile Library)
Tuesday Morning Book Discussion: Readers' Services Assistant Laura Adler will lead a discussion of "Washington Square" by Henry James at 10 a.m. Jan. 8. Books are available one month prior at the Readers' Services Desk. (R-RS)
Meet Sen. Kotowski's representative: District Director Janie Morrison, from state Senator Dan Kotowski's office will answer questions privately about state services and benefits on from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 8 in a third-floor study room. No appointments are required.
New Year, New You, Getting Fit: Certified Personal Trainer Rose Nudo-Semsak will share tips on getting fit at 7 p.m. Jan. 9. (R)
One-on-One Career Counseling: Edie Kleinman, a licensed career counselor from Jewish Vocational Service, will provide 30-minute one-on-one assistance with interviewing, resume writing and other aspects of the job search process from 9-11:30 a.m. Jan. 9 in a fourth-floor study room.
