Des Plaines man killed

A 41-year-old Des Plaines man was killed Saturday in a collision in Jo Daviess County in northwest Illinois.

Zbigniew Korzeniewski of Des Plaines was in the passenger's seat of a pickup truck driven by a Niles man when it hit a semitrailer truck driven by a 58-year-old Iowa man, according to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Department. Korzeniewski died at the scene, while the Niles man was treated for minor injuries, police said. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Dense fog in the area is believed to have played a part in the accident, which still is under investigation.
