Men's Open Basketball: Winter Men's Open Basketball leagues are now offered at the Sports Center. Teams may include up to 15 participants on their roster. The cost to participate is $600. A $100 deposit is required at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due no later than at the mandatory captain's meeting. This league is for men ages 18 and up and will run from 7 to 11 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 8 through March 18 at the Sports Center. Register by Friday at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center.
Bubble Wonders: Geoff Adkins Bubble Wonders will present a "Bubbleology" performance including tricks with ordinary soap bubbles at 10 a.m. Jan. 3. The presentation will be held at the Round Lake Area Park District's Robert W. Rolek Community Center. Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door on the day of the performance.
Summer Job Fair: The Round Lake Area Park District will offer a Summer Job Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Sports Center. On-site interviews will be conducted and hirees will be notified by phone. Things to bring: identification, resume (if applicable), completed application (available at the registration desk at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or at Sports Center), past employer names/addresses and a list of three references. For more information, contact Jessica Desens at the Round Lake Area Park District.
Peter Pan Auditions: The Round Lake Area Park District will be holding auditions for Peter Pan at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 12 for dancers ages 6- to 12-years-old and at 3:30 p.m. for dancers ages 12 year to adults. Auditions will consist of primarily of dance so comfortable clothing and dance shoes are suggested. A small portion of the audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Auditions are open to all. No formal dance experience is necessary. Rehearsals will be held on Saturdays and Sundays only until the week before the show. The cast will be approximately 40 people. A registration fee of $110 will be required from the selected cast performers. The fee will be applied to the cost of the choreographer and class supplies like costumes and scenery. Each member of the cast will receive two complimentary tickets and a production T-shirt. There are approximately 15 roles that require speaking. The remaining roles are dance only roles. Co-Rec Volleyball: Put a team for the Winter Co-Rec Volleyball leagues. Choose from the Wednesday night "A" league from Jan. 23 to April 16 or the Thursday night "B" league from Jan. 24 to April 17. Participants may sign up for more than one night. Leagues will consist of a regular season and season ending tournaments. The cost to participate is $365. A $100 deposit is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due no later than at the captain's meetings. Leagues will run from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Register by Jan. 14 at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center.
Rapunzel: This humorous adaptation of the classic fairytale is fun for the whole family. Performance dates are 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 and 10 a.m. Jan. 21. Tickets are $3 per person when purchased in advanced and $4 at the door. Both performances will be held at the Round Lake Area Park District's Robert W. Rolek Community Center in the Children's Neighborhood Museum.
Frosty Footrace: Walk or run in the "Frosty Footrace" 5K Run/Walk on Feb. 24 at the Round Lake Area Park District Sports Center. Race day packets will be available for pick up at the Sports Center from noon to 7 p.m. Feb. 22 and 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 23, or pick up a packet at the Sports Center race site the morning of the race. Check in and registration will begins at 10 a.m. and the 3.1-mile run/walk will begin at 11 a.m. Registration is $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under in advance, $25/$12 the day of the event. After the race, participants can warm up by having a free lunch at "Soups On" inside the Sports Center. All proceeds to benefit senior fitness programs.
Sports programs: The park district offers the following sports activities for all ages. Some programs begin in September, so sign up early at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center or the Sports Center:

• Youth Dodgeball, sixth to eighth grade.
• Basketball Tournament, ages sixth to 12th grade.
• Go Girl Go, third to eighth grade.
• All-Around Sports No School Days, first to sixth grade.
• AYSO Indoor Soccer Tournament, ages 10 to 12.
• Youth 3 v 3 Indoor Soccer Leagues, ages 9 to high school.
• Baton Twirling, ages 3 to 5 and up.
• Karate, ages 5 to adult.
• Youth Basketball, first through eighth grade.
Reach One on Fridays: Reach One on Fridays is celebrating its seventh summer of providing recreational opportunities on Friday evenings to kids ages 9 through 15.
Reach One, with the Ranger Police Department of the Round Lake Area Park District, has helped build bridges between children of the Round Lake Area and local law enforcement officers. Kids enjoy food, swimming, games, sports contests and prizes.
There are designated bus stops at Timbercreek, Rosewood, Meadowgreen, Cedar Villas and Cambridge Courts. Officers will be visiting homes in these areas to invite kids to join the fun on Fridays.
