Off-duty police officer may face drunken driving charges

An off-duty Chicago police officer is in critical condition and may face drunken driving charges following a Christmas Eve crash.

Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond says the 43-year-old male officer's blood-alcohol limit surpassed the legal limit when his car hit a tow truck parked on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

Police did not release the officer's name. Investigators are looking into the crash, which happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The officer remains at Stroger Hospital with two broken arms, two broken legs, a broken pelvis and severe blood loss.

The tow truck driver was repairing a flat on another vehicle, and also was injured and taken to a local hospital.
