What animal lovers really should do

During the holiday season there are many companies and advertisers that encourage people to spend large sums of money to pamper their already-beloved dogs, cats, horses, birds and other companion animals.

Don't take the bait. It's best for animal lovers to donate time and money at animal shelters, wildlife sanctuaries and anticruelty organizations.

This will make life a little better for the countless canines, felines and other critters that do not have the good fortune to be family members of hospitable and compassionate human households.
