Shelter offers low-cost spaying, neutering, vaccinations

Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin offers low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations for area pets. Appointments are necessary for all procedures and vaccines.

Surgeries range in price from $48 to $90, depending on the species, sex and weight of the pet. All animals should be fully vaccinated prior to coming to the shelter for spaying or neutering.

"Last year, we spayed or neutered over 1,000 animals through our low-cost program," says Anderson director Sarah Hill. "And, we saw, nearly 400 more through our low-cost vaccine clinic."

The vaccine clinic is offered at the shelter twice monthly by appointment only.

Services offered include all preventive vaccinations; deworming medication; heartworm testing and preventive medication; testing for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FeLV/FW) and vaccinations against the diseases; flea and tick protection; and microchipping.

For appointments for any of the shelter's low-cost services, call (847) 697-2880, ext. 3.

The shelter is at 1000 S. LaFox (Route 31) in South Elgin. Visitors to the shelter should note that Route 31 is closed just south of Anderson.
