Driver OK after minivan rolls over on I-90

The driver of a minivan who lost control of his vehicle Sunday morning on I-90 and crashed through a fence survived, apparently unscathed.

"Believe it or not, (the accident) was not (serious)," said Hoffman Estates fire Battalion Chief Richard Englund. "The car probably rolled over a few times and was off to the side of the highway."

When paramedics arrived, the driver was already out of the vehicle.

"He was standing there, waiting for us," Englund said.

The man was transported to Northwest Community Hospital in good condition, Englund said.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

At about 9:30 a.m., Englund said the driver was heading east, and was about one mile east of Barrington Road, when he went through the barrier fence, which is about 25 yards off the highway. Then his minivan rolled over a few times.

"The seat belt probably saved his life," Englund said.

Illinois State Police said no citation was issued, and the accident is under investigation.
