More support for snow shoveling
I applaud Mark Stastny's Fence Post on shoveling sidewalks.
Last week I was driving on the northwest side of Chicago and an old man was walking in the street with a shopping cart. Why? Because he was unable to use the snow-filled sidewalks even though we hadn't seen snow for days.
It is sad that houses filled with kids, young adults and healthy grown-ups leave their sidewalks unshoveled and hazardous for those who walk out of necessity or enjoyment.
Are kids too busy playing their video games? What better way for them to burn off some energy than to get outside and shovel snow.
Let's help others and be nice this holiday season by shoveling your walkway. You might even get to talk to a few of your neighbors.
People pay hundreds of dollars to join health clubs when there is plenty of exercise that would benefit us all. And if you do have kids, get them involved and let them know why it is being done.
Let's also show consideration for those who use sidewalks and keep our autos parked out of the way.
I was proud of my neighbors when I looked down my street on this snow-filled day and saw a clear path to our corner.
And last, but certainly not least, let's not forget the fire hydrants. Merry Christmas to all and to all a safe night!!!
