Seniors support kids in holiday show rehearsal

The holiday spirit bridged the generation gap at an Arlington Heights day care and school on Monday.

For months a group of kindergarten kids from the center have meet with a group of senior citizens from an adult day care center at Northwest Community Hospital. The two groups bond over puzzles and games.

On Monday, about 40 seniors took buses over to the kids' center and watched a dress rehearsal of their annual holiday program. The kids -- ages 2 years old through kindergarten -- will put on the official program for their parents and friends later this week, said Roberta Schuster, director of the A Mother's Touch, at 1200 S. Dunton St. in Arlington Heights.

"It's a multi-cultural show with typical holiday songs as well as African dances, Kwanzaa and even a dreidel song, Schuster said.

All of the almost 100 kids had a part in the show, Schuster said.

A particular crowd favorite was when a group of 3-year-olds paired off and danced, Schuster said.

"They danced in partners and it was really, really cute," she said.

The kids started practicing for the holiday show right after Halloween, Schuster said.
