Veeck to teach class
Sports promoter Mike Veeck, known for inviting baseball fans to burn disco records at a Chicago ball park and locking stadium gates to set a poor attendance record, is headed to a college classroom. Veeck, the son of legendary owner Bill Veeck, will next month begin teaching a graduate marketing and advertising sports management course at The Citadel, officials said Friday. Mike Veeck, who is the co-owner of minor league baseball's Charleston Riverdogs, is known for his "fun is good" approach to work and life. In 1979, he was the mastermind of the Chicago White Sox's notorious Disco Demolition Night, where fans were invited to burn disco records in the Comiskey Park outfield and started a near riot. The White Sox had to forfeit the game, and police were called to toss rowdy fans.
