New foundation role for WGA's Moore
After 40 years of leadership with the Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation, Jim Moore is leaving his position as educational director to accept a new role as senior vice president of foundation advancement.
Moore, who joined the WGA/ESF staff in 1967, has served since 1989 as educational director. His new role will begin on Jan. 1.
"Jim has done a remarkable job of building the Evans Scholars Program while serving as a mentor and counselor for our Evans Scholars," said Don Johnson, WGA President and CEO. "As senior vice president of foundation advancement, he will take the lead in developing a loyal base of supporters to guarantee funding of the program for future Evans Scholars."
All Evans Scholars are golf caddies who earned their full tuition and housing scholarships based on four criteria: strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. The program has a graduation rate in excess of 90 percent, with an overall grade point average for all Evans Scholars above a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
Currently, 835 golf caddies are enrolled in college as Evans Scholars. More than 8,600 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the program was founded in 1930 by Charles "Chick" Evans Jr., famed Chicago amateur golfer and winner of the 1916 U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur.
