S. Elgin still needs ideas for new logo
South Elgin could ring in the new year with a new seal and new slogan.
With the Dec. 31 deadline approaching, there's still time to have your vision or catchphrase be seen on village water towers, public works vehicles and letterhead.
So far, three people have submitted several ideas and designs each.
Designs are due at village hall, 110 N. Water St., by 5 p.m. New Year's Eve.
Village Clerk Margo Gray expects more to filter in before year's end.
"(Entries are) about what I anticipated. People always wait until the last minute," she said.
A seven-person committee will review entries in January and make a recommendation to Village President James Hansen.
The committee is not bound to pick from any of the entries to replace the current village seal, which Trustee John Sweet and former trustee Gary Hyman helped design in 1997 and is the only one the village ever has had in its 100-plus-year history.
"If nothing is better than what we already have, we'll keep it," Gray said. "We may choose the logo from one (entry) and the motto from another."
The village doesn't have a slogan right now, unlike Carpentersville, Elgin, Pingree Grove and St. Charles, to name a few.
The current montage of a trolley, fisherman and mill wheel is difficult to reproduce on embroidered logos and other items.
The new logo could wind up on public works vehicles, letterheads and even the village's water towers.
Earlier this year, Trustee Bill DiFulvio suggested the village add a slogan to the new seal contest to better represent how new growth has added to its identity.
The winner will receive a $100 prize and does not have to be a South Elgin resident.
